Points for attention in the sound field design of dance halls

Oct 20,2020

The sound field of the dance hall is different from general theaters and halls in the following three points: first, it has a large area of smooth surface dance floor, which is a strong sound reflection surface; second, there is a light stand on the ceiling above the dance floor , it concentrates a large number of technical equipment art lighting fixtures, performance lighting fixtures, sound and video equipment, etc. in the dance hall. Therefore, the dance floor is the visual and audio center, which is the heart of the dance hall; the third is that the dance floor and the stage are in the same space, and the formed space (sound field) represents the sound quality characteristics of the dance hall: the volume is large, and its sound level should be 95dB , and there is a margin of 6~10dB. The sound pressure level of playing disco music should be 110dB, and there is a margin of 10dB; Cause howling, so the sound field conditions of the dance hall are very complicated, and its acoustic design is sometimes more difficult than that of the theater.
But it has not attracted enough attention, and even the sound reinforcement system designers have not given due attention. The ratio of the height, width and length of the room is a condition that directly affects the quality of the sound field. When the ratio is appropriate, the resonance frequency of the room is evenly distributed. The ratio of "acoustics" is usually deduced as the "golden rule", that is, 0.618:1:1.618. As we all know The "Golden Rule" is also one of the proportions of the beauty of the auditorium, and it is also the scientific meaning of "isomorphism" in terms of architecture and art. It means that some objects look very different from the outside, but their internal structure, or their The connection forms between the constituent things are the same, and they can be converted into each other through some transformation, and 0.618 ("Golden Rule") is the value of their transformation. The key to the ratio is the height. The height of the dance hall should be more than 5 meters. If it is short, there will be a lack of low-frequency resonance in the room, which will affect the sound quality in the hall;
In addition, the scaffolding on the upper part of the dance floor is the place to install effect lamps and performance lamps, as well as speaker groups and video equipment for accompanying dancers, so the grille has a certain height. Irradiation angles are used to achieve good lighting artistic effects and suitable sound coverage; since the strong reflection of the dance floor surface has a great impact on the sound quality in the hall, sound-absorbing materials of sufficient thickness must be arranged on the top grille on the upper part of the grille, so the height of the hall and Its proportions are an important factor in determining the sound quality and lighting of the hall.
If the space in the hall is limited and cannot achieve this ratio, at least the space enclosed by the dance floor and the stage must conform to this ratio. Arc surfaces and two parallel surfaces should be avoided, they will produce sound quality defects, especially if the surface is decorated with mirror or hard materials, it will be more harmful. If it is necessary to use it from the shape requirements, this surface should be used Acoustic treatment.
