The important manifestation of the appropriate winding height of the voice coil

Aug 22,2024

When discussing the relationship between the winding height of the voice coil and the vibration stability, the appropriate winding height is a crucial design parameter, which directly affects the stability and performance of the speaker during audio reproduction.
Principles for determining the appropriate winding height
Avoid collision and interference: The appropriate winding height should ensure that the voice coil will not collide or interfere with other components in the magnetic circuit system under large amplitude. This requires that the vibration displacement of the voice coil and the geometric dimensions of the magnetic circuit system be fully considered during the design to ensure that there is enough gap between them.
Optimizing vibration efficiency The appropriate winding height should be able to optimize the vibration efficiency of the voice coil. Although too high a winding height can increase the vibration range of the voice coil, it may also cause the voice coil to be subjected to unnecessary resistance during the vibration process, thereby reducing the vibration efficiency. On the contrary, too low a winding height may limit the vibration range of the voice coil and affect the low-frequency response and sensitivity of the speaker. Therefore, it is necessary to find the good winding height balance point through experiments and simulation analysis.
Considering frequency response: The appropriate winding height should also consider the frequency response characteristics of the speaker. Audio signals of different frequencies have different vibration requirements for the voice coil. In order to obtain a wider and smoother frequency response range, the winding height of the voice coil needs to be finely adjusted during design to ensure that it can maintain a stable vibration state at different frequencies.
Material and process factors: The material and manufacturing process of the voice coil will also affect the appropriate winding height. For example, voice coil frames and windings made of different materials have different densities, rigidity, and conductivity, which will affect the vibration characteristics and stability of the voice coil. Therefore, when determining the appropriate winding height, material and process factors also need to be considered comprehensively.
